Oh, he’s so doing this for show because he wanted Christians to like him. He’s no Christian. He’s a Judas.

I truly do not believe that Trump is even religious. It’s all for show.

I’m not empowering anything: the EC already has this power and always has had it. We’ve had faithless electors before, just not on the scale we hope to now. If this prompts both sides to see problems in the system and abolish it going forward, all the better.

Most of us didn’t vote for him, though. This is the result of jerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement. We got the government less than 25% of us deserve.

Actually you can support both. The electoral college’s job is make sure unqualified people don’t become president. I don’t like it and I want it to go away, but that’s their constitutional purpose and this is the only time I can recall in which it would be an acceptable option for them to utilize that power. The one has nothing to do with the other.

The best hope we have is not voting for a monster. We get the government we deserve.

That’s two slightly different critiques though.

It’s known as arguing in the alternative, and it’s perfectly valid.

It’s not a favor, it’s recognition that the mechanism in place—as imperfect as it is—is the best hope we have of avoiding a calamitous presidency.

Someone works hard in school, studies while other people party, gets a good job out of college and lives within their means. Then they are responsible with their money, make sound investments. Perhaps they take a huge risk and start their own business. After all this hard work, people call them lucky and resent them
