I'm betting time travelers. Why? Not only are the odds that their DNA does so close to our support this (genetic manipulation to prolong lifespan, etc), but also the series title. I'll bet anything that "The Event" is NOT in fact, the crash landing of their ship. I bet that it's something that they went back in time…
