Agreed. The worst item on the list is the book of Bible quotes for the "teen athlete." Nutcracker tickets for a 5 year old is a really lovely and thoughtful gift, IMO.

That's what I thought! Those gifts all sound fine to me....but then I started taking my daughter to The Nutcracker every Christmas when she was four, so perhaps I'm Auntie Asshole.

Man, sounds like your mom's best friend is trying to find gifts that people would like based on their interests. Bravo to her for putting in the effort instead of just checking off items on a task list. And nutcracker tickets age five? Shoot, I would have loved that. Give her a break.

I used to babysit for this awesome, and really well off, family when I was in high school. The Dad was a doctor and since I was from a poor town they were the coolest of the cool with their fancy house and in-ground pool. The kids I babysat were kind of snotty, but they didn't know/realize because they're young and

I have a goodie! Three years ago, my grandmother on my mom's side decided since my sister and I didn't have children, she wasn't speaking to us. Mind you, I was 24 and my sister was 21. Both very single.

Absolutely, I totally agree. But I'm not ordering anyone to do anything, nor am I calling anyone an asshole, or "Jezebel's token black," or anything like that. To me it is quite obvious that Kara's piece is satirical and exactly on the nose about the futility of tokenism, but hey, rock on guys, keep doing what you do.

I hear you. But might do it again.

I do think this guy is more of a clear danger than Em was to Kim, but I can't parse why. I don't think that formally recording your misogyny and making money from it automatically

I don't really understand your critique of Roberts' comparison.

Seriously? You're equating rape threats with swearing AND finding a way to move responsibility off the boy and onto the mother? That is some mental gymnastics.

not for me. This was over a messaging service, not a board meeting. I found it humanizing, and more am convinced the mom is horrified. "Shit" doesn't shock me. She didn't place (on the girl)or try to get out of blame(on her son, or even herself really). That looked like a good parenting response to me.

The issue I have with both girls and boys dolls is that it is so taboo for kids to play with the doll designed for the "wrong" gender. There isn't anything bad about fashion and being pretty or dressing up, why is it so bad for boy to take and interest in this? I feel that you are implying that the things Barbie
