They’re not sitting directly going “fuck women. fuck womens rights. I support rape. I don’t give a fuck” they’re only doing so indirectly.

he would’ve been 31 or 32 at the time -

I couldn’t tell from the links what countries you’re referring to where this is actionable (am I missing something with that second link? I’m just seeing a self-help book)

I totally agree that it sounds like Green has some responsibility for this. His comments about funding especially jumped out for me — but I figured that might be partly related to the fact that I work in public health. It’s in a researcher’s interest to acknowledge funding from NIH, not so much from a tobacco company.

Financial disclosure forms that I have filled out before publication have generally requested specifics on funding, including grant numbers. Reviewers might not get funding details though, and even if they did, I would agree that verifying that kind of stuff shouldn’t be the job of an expert in the field who is

The weirdest thing about this to me as a researcher is the stuff about Green not knowing where the funding was coming from. Green says “it’s a delicate matter to ask another scholar the exact method through which they’re paying for their work,” but that hasn’t been my experience. Funding, especially project-specific

They have joint custody, so it is likely that California courts required him to make efforts to get his visa reinstated. Maybe that won’t work for him, or will be difficult, but if he was expected to do so and didn’t even try, that’s on him.

Hmm, I don’t know about rashes, but the other stuff sounds a lot like how my migraines started. At the time, I didn’t suspect that they were migraines because I didn’t think migraines lasted that long. Also I had this image of a classic migraine where you get an aura and have to be in a dark room all the time. (I do

Yes there are double-blind randomized clinical trials that show acetaminophen is good for other things -

Yeah, years of life experience is an important piece to address. From my quick reading of the study, it’s looking at lifetime partners for all generations at the time of the surveys, not at lifetime partners as of a certain age. They did use mixed effects analysis to determine how much age was a factor vs. generation,

I can see what you’re saying, but also think she has a point. In 1976, newly minted Stanford graduates didn’t work as receptionists period, or start out anywhere near as low on the totem pole as she did with a comparable background. In 2015, we still don’t have that many female CEOs. I’m not going to vote for her, but

[retracted for personal reasons]

I’m sorry that happened to you.

Five kids under 6 years old, aaahhh! I’m picturing this being less of a spacing choice, and more to do with other circumstances, but, I dunno. I guess if you want to have a lot of kids, maybe it seems easier to just get it over with, or like, some people might prefer to do all the intense baby-care stuff in one

Yeah, I think you’ve hit on the bit that’s the main source of confusion here. Based on the linked sources, it looks like that should say “Reproductive health experts recommend a minimum of 18 months between pregnancies.”

Correction: Reproductive health experts recommend a minimum of 18 months between births pregnancies...

Any chance of updating this post to include Christine Ahn, the WOC who is the lead coordinator for this project? She’s the other woman in the lead image here, she is prominently featured in the Guardian article quoted here, but she is not actually named anywhere in this piece.
