I actually liked Un Lun Dun quite a bit, but I read YA and kids' fantasy books for fun sometimes still. It's definitely not much like his other books.
I liked Kraken although it probably counts as one of his lesser novels. Some cool ideas though.

I don't know that she's going for relevant — I liked Tamara Drew (but I didn't know Far from the Madding Crowd ) and Gemma Bovary (which I did read the original inspiration of). I also read a big Simmonds omnibus and that was kind of a lot to take.
