I never said they were better, I never said they were worse. I merely pointed out that there weren't any income taxes in the USA for better part of the first 100 years, and the country was pretty well off overall.

Was the USA a decent society before 1861? How about 1894? Those were the years of the first income tax (Wartime and peacetime). 3% During the Civil War. Then 2% in 1894, which was the first peactime income tax.
