I replaced the screen with a newer, backlit, screen. It’s an original model GBA so now it has a bright and gorgeous screen and all of my games look amazing on it.

Oh no, I just get a replacement through Nintendo’s website. Not playing around with any third party batteries, haha.

While the resolution itself doesn’t actually help, a 1440p display will have a much smaller dot pitch than the oldschool Game Boy’s 144p display, which will in fact make the image look sharper.

Yeah 3ds xl is the way to go. Huge screen, native hardware support for GBA/NDS, and just emulate Gameboy, ngpc. You get two more generations for your money. Unfortunately a decent used “new” 3ds xl or 2ds xl is going for about the same as the analogue. Actual new is $350+

Tbh, the speaker was tinny, not the tracks, at least as far as I remember. I remember plugging in a pair of earbuds as a kid and being surprised that there was actually bass and stuff I couldn’t hear from the speaker.
