If you have knobs and buttons, it’s not a MK8. The MK8 is all touchscreen HVAC and capacitive controls on the steering wheel. It’s an horrendous interface.

Yeah but then you lose what was said to be the saving grace of the Mazda:  a usable interior.  The Mk8 Golf interior is bad enough to remove the car from consideration entirely.

I’m also a professional in the investment casting industry, for aerospace componentry.  I can agree with the efforts made to optimize each step of the sequence and am jealous that at your location, the labor is minimal.

Depends on the casting.  Investment/lost-wax and sand casting aren’t exactly fast or labor-free.  Die casting and injection molding are probably pretty safe though.

My MKV GTI had a pair of dim red LEDs serving the same purpose.  One of my favorite little interior features of that car.
