Exactly. Most people barely went into their thesis. One person in an anthropology program spent at least a minute and a half (half of the whole presentation!) explaining to us that Indiana Jones is not, in fact, a documentary. To a crowd almost entirely consisting of other big ol' academic nerds. I don't know.
From reading the comments from the review on this site, it seems like the book it's based off of pretty clearly is dealing with those issues. From the reviews it seems like the movie pretty much completely avoided any real exploring of those ideas.
It is truly a thing of beauty.
