Part of what bugs ME about this whole conversation is the presumption that "Girls" is representative of a generation in the first place.

I will readily admit that I don't read a ton of stuff on The A.V. Club — I don't know one writer from another, and often don't even pay attention to who wrote what. So I'm possibly less aware of each one's pet shows, issues, etc.

"If we dislike salmon, we don’t presume salmon itself to be bad; we just understand we don’t have a taste for it."

Agreed. When I was in Russia, I lived next to two Christian missionaries. They were great guys, and were willing to sit and talk to me about Christianity — as in, genuinely listen to & answer my questions, not just sit silently waiting for their turn to preach. Is there a countdown to when Johnny Depp starts speaking with a permanent English accent?

If they started using that name, I might actually watch. I find that kind of honesty quite refreshing.

I have to admit, I struggle with that one. If I thought I knew the one true Truth, I'd feel a bit obligated to tell everyone else about it too. I might feel like a selfish jerk if I kept it to myself. I do get that.

Not enough bare breasts in this one to be a Cannon film.

I saw both as a child, I am now ashamed to admit. But on the plus side, "American Anthem" was good for a wicked crush on Janet Jones lasting approximately 6 months.

I'm torn… While I find your comments sexist, they're not surprising or worthy of much response. However there is a large part of me that is offended at how deeply you misunderstand the roots of humor in human beings. Humor is not inherently masculine; the element of surprise is not gendered; funny does not equal

I know some people will be tempted to say, "Well, that's one person's opinion," but it's actually an undeniable fact.

Yep, the stories are all told through Katniss' eyes.

Keep in mind, the people in the Capitol are the only ones in the country who are well-fed and generally not oppressed. They're fat and happy.

I have wondered a few times whether the author meant for any political messages to be gleaned from this story. If you're right, and that the message is supposed to be "big government/media is bad," then it's an exceptionally ill-timed message in my opinion. We're in the midst of a recession caused by private
