It’s nice to see Lucasfilm: The Next Generation is running with the explanation that lightsabers are functionally high-energy light beams looped back on themselves by a powerful magnetic field. That means ANYthing with a suitably strong enough electromagnetic charge can at least resist being cut by the blade.

Their blaster fire is more accurate than Sand People if you want to believe Obi-Wan.
