This isn't a goddamned two-sided situation. He's trying to excuse FUCKING NAZIS WHO KILLED SOMEONE (and actively call for death and discrimination). For fuck's sake. Not every thing has two equally valid sides to the story! LITERAL GODDAMNED NAZIS. It's like declaring that the victims of a serial killer were actually

I know I was an insufferable undergrad. I think its been a problem since the dawn of the university.

I'm curious then, was there something in the list that you objected to? I'm honestly asking. Or do you have a concrete example of a "safe space" that you find particularly objectionable?

I don't know, I think think that university climates can vary pretty wildly between campuses. I'm a PhD student at a school that has been in the news off and on for being perceived as overrun by "special snowflakes." Most of those public accounts have really been twisted to meet a narrative about universities' neglect

Bob Jones too!

Visually, they borrowed quite a bit from medieval manuscript illumination and I think that should count for something! I think they put how rude the marginal images can be to really great effect.

Oh, First Knight. It's not a "good" movie, but it is fun to watch for a laugh. I loved how they would randomly focus in on the stable boy Peter for dialogue-less reaction shots.

Cleveland is pretty great, actually. It has a mixed reputation, but its a really affordable city with good food and a killer art museum. Unfortunately, whenever I mention the city to folks who haven't been there, I just get the song from the "hastily made Cleveland tourism video" sung to me. *sigh*

I think it may have just gone to Pierson College, not the whole university, but still. She took the time to e-mail this to 500 people.

It's actually not so bad. It's inconvenient to fly to, but it has some nice parks and East Rock is really cute. I don't know, I lived in Cleveland before CT, so I'm probably not the best adjudicator of civic beauty.

Bar's mashed potato pizza is possibly my favorite thing.

Actually, you know what? I was kind of a dick to you. I didn't need to be. I've deleted my snarky bullshit. The world is too shitty to waste time fighting on the internet. Have a good week.

Your TYPING is TEARING me APART!

This is so, so true. I remain deeply disappointed in the choices re Faramir. His role as a foil for Boromir is totally lost in the films with the changes that were made to the character.

I love this comment so much. I think this is a great point.

I actually thought it might be a result of the extensive influence of Anglo-Saxon poetry… In Beowulf and the Wanderer, the outcome of a given conflict is frequently mentioned without really any details on what happened. (Or, as in the case of Hondscioh, the audience doesn't even learn the guy's name for hundreds of

Haha, I was just a sort of indiscriminate consumer of whatever fantasy/sci fi books I could get out of our little township public library. WoT and the Dragonriders of Pern series were my absolute favorite at the time, but I also loved Garth Nix's Abhorsen books. I really wish I had more time to read fantasy as an

Middle school me is really, really pumped about this, haha. I still think of the magic system from this series from time to time— I think that was my favorite part of the books.

When I lived in Cleveland, I once was woken up by a scurrying noise and when I turned on the light, there was a huge one on the wall adjacent to my bed. Right next to my head. I killed it and then (at 2 am) drove across town to sleep at a friend's because there was no way I was going to sleep in my own apartment that

You're right… April would be an awfully odd time to matriculate in the American university system at least. Perhaps "commencement season" is what they meant. (Matriculation is derived from Late Latin "Matricula" which is a public register or roll.)
