I personally think this show is superb. Yes, last year's arc was better. It featured Moriarty, the ultimate villain in the Holmes series, who happened to be Irene Adler, who happened to be played by Natalie freaking Dormer, with Joan (who happens to be Lucy Liu) coming into her character. Good luck touching that.
