As a manual driver, when driving automatics; put it in park before you try to take the keys out. Otherwise they will not come out.
This gets me every time.
I can rest my hand on the clutch and my elbow on my center console. I’d estimate I am putting less than 2 lbs of weight on the actual shifter. If that can kill my car, then it was bad design from the get-go.
Depending on the auto, I’ll do this. Some autos I’ve driven have a very strong creep foward which really makes you keep your foot in it at a stop, which gets tiresome if you’re stopped for more than a minute (heavy traffic, long light).
