Non-life threatening injuries after taking a direct hit at near top speed on the driver-side window, not the door, the window since it was upside down, is an absolute miracle. Praise God for allowing that to be so. These cars have been built “safe” but there’s only so much you can do and that was one of the worst case

Thank you!!!! All I have to say is to all those engineers, designers, welders, and mechanics who put so much time and effort into making racing as safe as possible, they are pretty big heroes to me. And dont forget the medics, EMTs, and doctors as well. That was one of the worst places to be hit and yet Newman stands

Thank God.

I’m relieved to see there aren't a bunch of morons in here shitting on Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney. That wreck was terrible, and I pray to God Rocketman is okay, but it's also the kind of wreck that happens a lot at the end of superspeedway races. This one just went very bad very quickly, and there are some people

Dan Wheldon’s accident in 2011 comes to mind for me.

Probably the wrong post to make a comment like this, dude. This is bad. Nobody gives a shit about your food content right now.

I hope for the best for Ryan. However that’s the worst case scenario for a crash, imagine getting a small block engine thrown through your driver’s side window.

Keeping Newman, Blaney, and LaJoie in my heart tonight. Ryan needs all the prayers he can get right now. I can't imagine how Ryan Blaney and Corey are feeling right now. I hope all of them can look back on this one day and say "that was scary, but we all made it through ok."

This wreck really didn’t look good. And the lack of info or communication and how the crews were taking their time really wasn’t encouraging.

Yeah... flashbacks to 2001...

I was standing up hollering, all excited for such a wild finish. And within seconds I just felt so sick to my stomach. I'm hoping we hear something promising soon.

Not the worst wreck I've seen, but, the mood certainly reminds me of 2001.

Watched it live and was like “that was bad”. Then I saw the slow-mo replay of the upper-drivers-side of the cage take the direct hit of the car behind and was like “that’s really bad....”

Agree. That was a brutal hit in a very bad spot. Jeff Gordon’s reaction was eerily like Darrel Waltrip’s was when he saw Earnhardt’s crash.

I don’t remember the last time I saw a wreck that actually made me sick to my stomach. Shot a prayer up for Newman, as well as Blaney.

Nothing says style like the wacky, waving, inflatable arm, flailing tube guy mirror

Shit like this should lead to years in jail, and a permanent ban from ever getting a driver’s license again. Driving is a privilege, and when you abuse the privilege this egregiously you should never get it back.

Picked a good night to be illegally parked.

The amount of energy needed to send a rock that size bouncing along like a basketball is scary. That driver is one lucky dumbass.
