Poor Walt Kelly, such a talented cartoonist who worked at his craft for decades and the only thing we’ve salvaged is that phrase.

Listen, I think we got off on the wrong foot. This mode of communication doesn’t always bring out my best qualities. You’ve given me a lot to “unpack” as they say and I respect the effort you’ve gone to in detailing your beliefs. In the spirit of that respect, I will now go over this text, digest it and ponder it, for…
Yes, you’ve just spelled out exactly why I find it frightening. (Especially considering I’m a non-religious, non-voting felon who wants reason and an appeal to peaceful, civilized debate to prevail. My personal life has been, up until recently, full of violent conflict and sadness and the last thing I want is to see…
Look, that all sounds great but your entire argument seems predicated on your own version of enlightenment and the erudition that followed. Now, I’m happy for YOU, but that doesn’t negate the fact that your journey to “enlightenment” is just that, YOUR journey. There’s a reason faith is the cornerstone of belief but…
I don’t believe for a second you’re open to correction but we’ll leave it here. The level of condescension and the high estimation of your own intellect convince me the last thing you’re actually looking for is healthy debate. I have no ax to grind, I’m not religious or politically active.
Karma and “reap what you sow” are not the same. That’s a facile and very Christian view of the principle of karma. You should have just stuck with the latter. Why promote a hijacking and diluting of another belief system’s concept? Especially for someone making detailed arguments with people about randomness, and…
Chaos theory posits that an apparently random condition exists we are not yet aware of in the determination of results. I would argue that even though said condition isn’t random in the truest sense because of lack of crucial information, it still mimics randomness and until the information is gleaned may as well be…
Good stuff. The point of your 3rd paragraph is especially troubling to me, considering the catastrophic results it portends.
Man, I was beginning to think I was alone. She was pitch perfect in her delivery of some wonderfully vapid shit. A very talented woman who gets very little notice. Go Cooch!!
“You know who I am right?” And the clerk’s thinking, “Yeah, the devil.”
Exactly the way I “defined” it in my initial response. I mean you can quibble about any label or era limits but the Spirit is definitely not “first wave” pulp character.
The Spirit definitely had the “spirit” of a pulp hero (esp. the movie) but its not of the pulp era (pre-comic book)...the Phantom, the Shadow, the Spider, Doc Savage and many more were definitely inspirations for these type of “pulpy” comic book heroes though.
Man, that dude just seemed pure evil. If you’re going to react like that to such a minor situation, throw you’re weight around, pull a gun...you gotta wonder what kind of nefarious shit this guy’s been up to. They need to find this MF and find out where the bodies are.
I think you’re responding to either a troll or a bot. I can find no evidence online for his claims. That would be one hellishly stupid thing for Reitman to say.
Another man should of stepped up and got in dude’s face. Cowards everywhere.
Me too brother, that’s why I remember WP. Cheers.
Were those a one word rip off version of the famous Wacky Packages? I tease with love.
This will most likely be an unpopular opinion but I’m not sure which stance I find more obnoxious lately: Nostalgia is my drug, I don’t think - I love; Why don’t they make movies (music, books, etc.) like they used to?; Kids today don’t know shit. Or this one: Man nostalgia is stupid, man WE were stupid, this stuff is…
Thank you. I mean there are components in the creation of art that can be objectively judged (although even that is problematic) but the finished product depends on an individuals taste. There were critics who’ve argued for an objective measure of art (visual art in particular) but those arguments tended to be…
Your post (or should I say thesis) is wonderfully expressed and I agree with it completely. Kudos my friend, you should be writing for money, your take was much more nuanced and interesting than the original article.
