Ad blockers work great... If you are using a browser. But its much harder to set up some kind of ad blocker if you use say, a Smart TV app.  Yes sometimes there are ways of getting around that, but even then its not easy nor foolproof.

Big corporate/mainstream media wants to push their standard and advertiser-friendly content on youtube more, and are willing to cut YouTube in on the profits to the point to where they are getting their way, screw the little guys who are independent creators on the platform.
