Yeah, if you gave most GMs that many high picks, they’d come away with at least one All Star, so I’m not super impressed by the Embiid thing (they’d already drafted Simmons when he came on board, I believe). But yes - you can absolutely tank your way to a good team. Oklahoma City did it, and they weren’t the first.

So, yes, usually I just ignore the trolls. But at the same time, this is just the Deadspin comments section and sometimes I’m bored and curious where the “conversation” might go. Also I have on occasion—rare, I admit—ended up in a productive conversation with someone who started out clearly trolling by engaging with

Agreed. Everyone talks about how “The Process” ended up netting them Embiid, but less discussion is given to the numerous young players that Process chewed up and spit out. Just at the top end: is it possible that Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor would be further along if they’d been drafted by an org that was actually

In recent memory, he has been disciplined by the NBA both for kicking (flagrant 2 foul, $25,000 fine) and punching (1-game suspension) groins.

Not really. Policing that kind of stuff is not the union’s raison d’être.

I know.

MJ certainly does not have a strong track record in this department, though I’ll admit Kemba Walker is better than I ever thought he would be.

He’s never hit anyone but he has repeatedly kicked people in the junk.

I think this is true, but those media franchises don’t tend to be the local franchises with beat reporters who need the access.

Draymond Green’s a dick-and-balls-kicking asshole but he’s also right a lot of the time. For every can’t miss prospect like LeBron or KD or Zion, there’s a dozen guys every year who have the potential to have long, productive careers in the NBA and never get it because they don’t land in a situation that’ll help them

What, you don’t like rooting for the Elb?

Sounded more like Magic Johnson to me

Ah, the famous “one for the dong”

This is something I find myself struggling with a lot. There’s a part of me that says, well, if China’s money can buy Kerr’s speech, than anyone else’s could, too, so that means anything else he has to say is basically moot. That’s an idealistic part, maybe the sixteen year-old part of me, that still believes that

Might be. I don’t watch football anymore. If so, it’s not illegal because anyone thought it was cheating. More likely some kind of QB safety issue.

Yeah, I was going to compare it to a defensive player in the NFL perfectly reading the count, getting a running start, jumping right over the line, and sacking the QB before he can even take a step backward. We celebrate that, and it’s essentially the same thing.

My favorite thing about this is that when Ortiz says “They might think it’s cheating” it very much sounds like he’s saying “They might think it’s shitty.”

“Okay, the category is NBA Teams. You get R-S-T-L-N and E. What are your three choices?”

“I’ll take F, Q, and ... Y, Pat!”

I suspect you’re correct, and it’s a huge bummer.
