Hey, I think some of those spaceships are CGI.

Linus Roache is pretty terrific. I also like the Saxons, in general. Vikings actually started as a potential series about Alfred the Great, and I think Hirst's enduring interest in Wessex shows.

The Vikings were true polytheists. Ragnar can straddle the worlds of the Christian and Norse gods, because it's not an either/or decision for him (as it was for Athelstan). He's sincere in his attachment to Athelstan, but I'm betting it leads to a very surprising service inside the city walls next week. If the Seer is

Kwen would be the worst girlfriend ever. But things would never be boring.

I think he loves Lagertha, and didn't give a rat's ass about anything but saving her from certain death. I also think Ragnar respects him. We'll see.

Me, too. And I think he and Lagertha couple be an effective couple.

I'm glad somebody else noticed Louie's kitchen prowess. Good ingredients, entirely from scratch. He's like a chicken wizard.

Floki took from Ragnar the thing he trusted the most. Ragnar returned the favor, stripping Floki of his trust in the gods.

The Saxons used to bitch that Viking men were overly concerned with their appearance, bathing weekly and dressing in brightly colored clothes. To zoom the local English ladies. ;-)

But here's the thing: Kalf is right. He's a snake, but he's got a claim to the earldom. He couldn't take it from Lagertha by marriage (for reasons discussed onscreen), but he did a good job taking it through treachery. If Ragnar were to depose him, Lagertha's legitimacy would not be strengthened. On the other hand,

Tonight's episode was a sprawling mess. WAY too many stories going on, and none of them getting sufficient service. The title was "Paris," but we got dragged through a travelogue of tedious subplots. On to the siege engines, please. It's time for Rollo to get the girl, and Floki his comeuppance.

And a makeup store. I know the Norse had cosmetics, but all the Kattegat women seem to have high-quality lipsticks in modern shades. ;-)

It's the fabric of the original tales, which were overtly supernatural (Lagertha is practically a Valkyrie). I think they've been careful with this. We've seen no overt display of anything magical — it's all in the perception of the characters. Floki's bleeding figurehead, for instance, was a vision, and they took

They have *always* played fast and loose with history. I actually don't have a problem with this: The tales of Ragnar are fragmentary, contradictory, and probably legendary. I'm sure they changed with the telling. I'm kinda pleased to see new life and creativity breathed into the old stories.

Thanks. I thought she was. So she cannot literally be valkyrie.

Maybe you're not too far off. Yes, it's Thyri. But Thyri was a maiden, and maiden sometimes became valkyrie. That's her function in this scene. She's come to fetch Siggy, who has died heroically. I think it's fair to speculate on this: The valkyrie were dispatched by Odin, and there was Harbard as Siggy goes under,
