On Reddit the guy shooting the video said he’s going to do more “episodes” of this same intersection.

$600 is the sweet spot if a beginner can swing it. I have an X-Caliber 6 that was on sale for $6xx and it has lasted me 2 full years so far with nothing breaking (I did upgrade the fork though).

My son has a 3700 Disc that came with disc brakes for $400. I’m sure you can get current models with them too. The pads were loud, but they seemed to function pretty well.

He wasn’t asking about “serious” mountain biking though. He asked about a starter bike.

You can get better Trek’s for $400, but the 820 is still better than what box stores offer.

Yep, just depends on what your local dealer carries. I’m in WI so all the dealers are Trek here.

Depends on what you’re looking for. You can get hydraulic brakes on cheaper bikes, but $900 will definitely get you a better fork.

I know tons of people with $400 Treks that have used them for years without breaking components.

Are you seriously recommending $6,000-$10,000 bikes to a guy that was asking about buying a STARTER BIKE? A $400-600 hardtail will be more than good enough for the local singletrack he’s likely to ride it on, and far better than anything offered in a box store.

They’re fine for singletrack or XC trails that most beginners will ride on. If you’re going to be hitting huge jumps or long downhill trails, then you probably have a much better bike than a Marlin.

You can usually pickup an entry level mountain bike from a bike shop for around $400 (Trek 3500, Marlin 4). A used one on Craigslist should be even less.

Isn’t that what I just agreed with ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Based on the replies you’re getting, I think you just know a disproportionate number of people with that name!

That’s crazy talk

A lightbulb isn’t a lightbulb though. HID headlights and ballasts are significantly more expensive than standard bulbs, or taillight bulbs.

What region of the US? I have never met anyone with that name in the MidWest or East coast.

Most motorcycles only get driven 10-20k miles, whereas a car gets driven 100k plus. The above poster was talking about leaving on low-beams and tail lights, not DRLs.

I drive a LOT of various cars and have never seen a bulb notification light - but you’re right, that doesn’t mean they’re not there. I just replaced 5 out of 6 taillight bulbs on my mom’s Highlander when I visited last week because they were all burned out. She had no idea.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also have anecdotal evidence of people having to replace them all the time. I know I sound like a dick, and it’s not directed at you, but it really seems like a terrible solution to a problem. The real solution should be cops doing their damn job and issuing fines to these idiots. That’ll give them some

Which cars give you warnings when a bulb burns out?
