The difference between companies crapping out AI art instead of hiring a human artist and most any technology replacing a worker is those previous jobs were dangerous, drudgerous, or some combination of the two. It wasn’t work people aspired to.

Honestly I checked out this movie for the first time a year or two ago and I was struck by how the fantasy is to get a job and succeed as an executive assistant. The hurdles to success are there for Sue Ellen exist, but she vaults them pretty spectacularly. It’s a weird, Regan-hangover fantasy of business success.
