What remains to be seen is what “innocent” means in the context of this movie; they could do everything from explicitly address and refute the allegations to simply ignoring his personal life.

I think there’s a bit more nuance; a lot of people acknowledge the accusations but still enjoy the music.
One for every OT appearance! Seriously, my 90s geek ass was obsessed with him for that simple fact. Loved Admiral Piett for the same reason (2/3 of it at least).
Let’s fly, Lando!
Crikey, I only heard the news about Colman Domingo being cast as Joe Jackson and thought this would be a young Michael/Jackson 5 movie, not a straight-up biopic. Thinking it was the former I expected a nuanced, unflinching portrayal. Learning it’s the latter obliterates any impression the filmmakers are interested in…
A 4% increase tells me they’re holding steady, if anything; and that’s good! I think ABC and the Academy have a locked-in audience of people who grit their teeth and watch nearly four hours of ceremony; any attempt to change the minds of those not tuning in just risks alienating that built-in audience.
Right? I only watch two broadcast “events” a year: the superbowl and the Oscars. I could stream the game by buying a month of paramount or peacock; to watch the Oscars I had to sign up for a free trial for live tv streaming which you’ve just reminded me to cancel.
and the Muppet Movie.
he’s trolling.
they did include a link to the list!
To be fair, during the broadcast era, networks were just as mercenary about dropping shows if they didn’t have an impact; there’s a galaxy of one-season wonders fully deserving a fairer shake. I think it’s telling that this article cites like 3-5 examples of “nostalgia watches” from the last 30-40 years (a very small…
What annoys me about the article is: probably people are doing both, enjoying their favorites and branching out to the new stuff.
Exactly: “I just flipped on the tube and that buzzy new show is on; I’ll give it a few minutes” is a completely different buy-in from “I just opened Netflix and I could press play on that buzzy new show...but what if it takes a few episodes to get going?”
...okay, nostalgia is a factor here, but it isn’t the factor. I’d posit that the necessary “self-curation” of streaming services put the onus on the viewer; turning on the tv and seeing what’s on is one thing, opening netflix and deciding what to watch is a whole other proposition. Of course one will opt for a known…
The in memoriam exemplified this Oscars, and the Oscars in general to me: you’re not going to get everything right and this is already kind of embarrassing, so just try not to trip over yourself reinventing the wheel. At least they had the promise of a more definitive list if you...followed a qr code.
This is weird to say but I read this comment a couple days ago, didn’t think to reply, then spent the afternoon thinking of the myriad ways 1985 and 2015 are different. TVCR said so, but I think the lack of perceived difference has a lot to do with (presumably) having gone through the last 30 years as a continuous live…
Honestly, picking a movie off its lazy “beloved childhod ip, but evil” premise is a step up for the Razzies, whose awards are usually reserved for joining the cultural dogpile on whoever is the current tabloid/late-night-monologue fodder.
It’s pretty amusing that the angle here is “they probably haven’t even seen these movies!” yet they can’t fully defend said films, having not seen them either.
You’re describing the median, not the average.
…because the scenery in the countryside is nice?
