“ah ah ah, if you’ll look closely you’ll see the Academy has sustained its habit of ignoring women for good reasons.”

It’s weird to pit these movies head to head as though awards season is a horse race when the reasons one is sweeping up awards has nothing to do with the other; and vice-versa.

i gotta say i only hear the “i’m not sure about this guy telling this story” misgivings from people who haven’t seen the movie.

I’m curious what actual time the doors and start were, as well as how many openers and how long they were on. In short: how long were these people actually staring at an empty stage? Depending on those factors, a headliner taking the stage two hours after lights go down isn’t that wild.

As i understand it the rights are on a temporary basis and revert unless renewed. Part of why Netflix has a shifting offering is a lot of studios pulled their content off other services for exactly the reason you describe: Warner and Disney want you to subscribe to their service because you *know* that’s where you’ll

Even more annoying is the lack of research or context: Netflix has carried older movies this whole time, and while the 1974 movies are new to it right now they’ve carried them previously. Netflix has been cycling old movies in and out since time immemorial. The news is the actual *section* highlighting these movies.

“I have to go now. My planet needs me.”

I just have to say it’s very strange to cite four deaths in about as many years, lump in a career imploding as the fallout of violent behavior, and then cast that broadly as some phenomenon of “losing” black actors. If four (or five, i guess) black actors are a significant percentage of black actors one’s aware of or

my favorite rapper going; hope this is good!

Always weird when Hollywood’s penchant for franchises/branding/remakes/sequels is some new or escalating phenomenon, and not just how Hollywood has done business like...forever....

You know what you do? You go buy yourself a tape recorder and record yourself for a whole day. You might be surprised at some of your phrasing.

I’m self-aware enough to know I’m not your son, son.

He said, without an ounce of self awareness 😂

Right? The op is right in the sense that there always was and will be crap, but there was a solid, definable run abetted by tv on dvd (serialized arcs were a lot more viable) and the transition into streaming which brought on some really good storytelling not many people expected from tv.

Yep. I bristle at a lot of nostalgic thinking, but there are clear, measurable ways the business side of media is changing, and that affects what does and doesn’t get made, and what does and doesn’t get promoted or renewed, for that matter.

imo I’d love for them to turn back towards a top-down perspective and turn a focus towards the rpg elements of the first few gens. I know, however, I’m not a typical player, that both gamers and devs want three dimensions, open world maps, and an avalanche of new mechanics.

117 episodes of The Good Doctor. What was the AVClub saying about pining for episodic tv and long episode counts?

I’ve seen it, I love it! It’s a good example of Star Wars and animation which aren’t just for kids.
