‘This is handball’

Brilliant. Give that man a medal.

Midway through the first half he took a pass and started to dribble toward the CRC 18 yard box. His terrible touch sent the ball lateral and directly into the defender. It was ridiculously frustrating to see.

Well right, but I wouldn’t expect anything less than a smashing.

Park the bus, hope for a draw and hope Colombia smashes Costa Rica? I mean, I hate the idea and I don’t think Klinsmann would park it, but is that our best option?

Lincecum has been one of my favorite player since he broke into the game. I really hope he comes back and does well.

Also, can we bring back the Tim the Enchanter nickname? Because A. Monty Python is awesome, B. It’s a legitimately great baseball nickname

Yep. He was really coming into his own with Bolton when the first injury happened. Cementing a first team place in a mid-table Premier League side. Really unfortunate how his career ended.

On the commentating side: I thought Stu Holden was pretty solid last night, except for one thing. He kept mentioning CRC playing a back three on the ball and reverting to a 5-man defence without. He kept calling the wingbacks “wingers that will defend” but never once called them wingbacks, which is what they were.

I

Totally fine with this, because it’s true.

Right? I dislike the Sox and it’s very hard this season because it’s an incredibly likeable and fun team.

Exactly. Jones had it right. I do lament that it is a bit harder for pitchers in general to throw inside these days. Hitters with their Barry Bonds-esque arm and elbow appartus, crowding the plate. It takes some real balls to throw inside these days, but again.. do it the right way.

I hear ya man. I’m a Mainer, so I see tons of Sox baseball. Mookie Betts is just the most wonderful thing in sports right now.

Counterpoint: Fuck your team.

Players crowd the plate and have made it difficult for pitchers to pitch inside and they all bitch and whine when it happens. I miss the days when a pitcher could throw inside and get someone to back off the plate.

Regardless, Ventura’s a dbag and was still in the wrong last night.

But

Agree 100%. I love Jones, but like I said he’s 350 years old. He likely (or shouldn’t) won’t be at the 2018 WC.

I get that Ventura was mad that Machado was yelling at him during the previous at bat. But Christ, strike him out. Beat him on the field. Don’t throw 99 MPH heat into his back. It just makes Ventura look like the asshole.

Agreed. I don’t necessarily agree with Patrick’s assertion that we’re “getting hot at the right time.” We should get through Paraguay to advance, but once we’re in the knockouts, we’ll need to get lucky to advance a round.

I’m optimistic, but not expectant.

I much prefer the Royals radio broadcast. Much more level-headed, even if Physioc is a moron sometimes. I just cannot stand Rex Hudler. He’s the Jack Edwards of KC sports.

Yeah. Hosmer screamed at him as one commenter said.

The problem is, we need him at his best. Moose, Salvy and Gordo have all missed decent chunks of time and all of the rookies playing is starting to take a toll on the team. We’re scoring under four runs a game and our rotation isn’t nearly strong enough to

Deuce definitely did not pass to Jones. I think as an attacking midfielder, he’d be just off the forward enough so he wouldn’t have to track back or run too much. Let Bradley/Jones do the real legwork in midfield.

Oh, I was well aware of that.

I’m sorry, “forced to play in attack and defence” is a ridiculous statement.

Wingers are supposed to track back and help their fullbacks in just about every formation in football. It’s his job to help back. The difference with him is that he should be able to track back and use his pace to help on the counter. Sure,
