This comment perfectly sums up why I hate my BIL. Except for the name, this is 100% him. He once told me that he didn’t tip a server because he ordered a dish with cheese in it (he doesn’t like cheese), not realizing that one of the ingredients listed on the menu was cheese...and this was the server’s fault because

HERE, HERE!!!! I loath tipping culture. I want it to end, but there is no end in sight! So I also tip plenty.

Steal pennies out of the penny jar. Lifehack!

I despise the entire system of tipping and would love for it to end. As it stands now, tipping is nothing more than rich people exploiting their lower and middle class customers to help directly pay their lower and middle class employees, all so that they can pocket and hoard even more of the wealth they aren’t

Also, WE ALL WALK AROUND WITH CALCULATORS IN OUR POCKETS NOW. No shame in getting out a calculator to leave a fair tip, if math ain’t your bag.

There’s going to be a hundred comments about why you shouldn’t tip or why it should only be X% instead of Y%.

No, it has. I will tip 25% or round up if I get really great service. The standard percentage has definitely risen so that 20% feels like the baseline. Like you, I’m not against it, but I have noticed it.

Call me pedantic, but when I hear the phrase "trick to help you save money", I don't think "by not giving other people money" really counts. How about not going out to eat twice a week? JFC.

I wonder how they got the $400 number? To “save” that much you’d have to be spending $20k eating out and if you’re doing that and sweating $400, you’ve got a lot of skewed priorities.

You're a fucking jerk.

But we currently inhabit the world where servers and other folks are not paid a decent wage, so...tip.

20% is minimum.

You are not. When I was younger it was 10% tip. I still tip 20% (most of the time) but I am now a positive campaigner for wage reform in the industry. Our waitstaff and vendors deserve a genuinely living wage, and we deserve to not have to tip to make up for crooked bosses. Until that day though...

Thank you for this. I’m ashamed to admit that it’s never occurred to me to tip stadium vendors, despite usually being tip conscious (20% on takeout orders, etc.). From now on I’ll be less of a trash human in the rare instances when I find myself at a game or whatever.

Worse still, this screws servers in other, lower-tax states even more.

What kills me is that 20% is such easy math. 1 for every 5 dollars. Round up if you’re between. Literally count on your fingers. Doubling your tax isn’t easier than going “5, 10, 15, 20, 25 - 5 dollars!”

So Zack can afford to spend $10,400 a year on eating at restaurants but absolutely has to save $400 on the back of people making $3 an hour and having to put up with the Zacks of New York? FUCK YOU ZACK.

It’s never occurred to me because I’ve never purchased something from a stadium vendor, but you’re right. Wonder if they’re considered servers and then only make tipped minimum?

I’m sorry the person you were when you were younger embarrasses you so much now, but that does not make this album bad, it makes your perspective shallow.

I don’t agree with your take. I saw Alanis in concert last summer and she rocked all the songs from Jagged Little Pill and it absolutely still holds up.
