It’s a scoop over the fin style diff cooler.

The three Grand Sports that competed at Nassau experienced numerous differential failures due to overheating. The “on vacation” GM engineers solved the problem by installing this differential cooler on the rear deck with a scoop. Worked like a charm, the rest is history.

Man, that Pong Pinto is a thing of beauty. I want to recreate that now. Interesting Infocom went with a Pacer in ‘80 since we all know 1980 Pacers were leftover ‘79's with a different hood ornament. Pacer production had long since ceased to make room for more Eagles by the time Comic-Con had rolled around.
