100% his thought process was “who is this guy. He’s from Atlanta? Isn’t that the inner city? Must be tons of blacks and crime!”

It reminds me of the 30 Rock all purpose benefit song: “and help the people...the thing that happened...happened to”

I can’t fault you for it. They are, after all, white, middle class, and Christian.

Oh I 100% agree that they don’t ACTUALLY care about their constituents, but they need to be able to successfully lie to them enough to keep their jobs.

I can’t fathom how their brains are working around this. I know they are awful people, but they aren’t complete morons right? They KNOW their idiot constituents will lose their coverage right? How are they thinking they will explain that?

I’m (semi) unfairly directing like 90% of my rage about this at one particular friend who has cardiomyopathy (heart failure) and whose husband is a POS Trump voter and who is just constantly like “Oh I just don’t care about politics” and I am like YOU WILL DIE. YOU. YOU. WILL. DIE. HOW DO YOU NOT CARE.

Soft sensuality indeed.

WHY WOULD SENSUALITY EVER BE USED TO DESCRIBE A PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION THAT’S NOT A THING EVEN WHEN WE AREN’T SWEARING IN THE GROSSEST MAN ALIVE.

Unfortunately, this situation is inherently political. I’m not generally looking to chat with strangers on the phone about my period, either.

Tell you what, when a bunch of women are trying to create policy surrounding your ejaculations, we’ll listen to you talk about them all you want.

I think this is supposed to be snarky, but there are plenty of reasons why a rape or incest (especially incest) victim may be seeking an abortion at >20 weeks that do not have to do with not being sure that they don’t want to carry their rapists child until that point.

I’m trying to livestream the hearings in the background while I work but his voice makes me want to vomit.

It also assumes that the world is markedly better for your existence in a way that somehow justifies something horrible happening to someone else (or many other people). I’d say that’s true for like .000000001% of the world population. If you didn’t exist, probably everything would be fine. In the case of this guy,

“Thank goodness you were raped, right grandma?” is a thing this guy might have actually said.

The narrative of “Abortion is bad, because my mom could have had an abortion but she didn’t and so I exist!” is terrible enough without being like “See, good things can come out of rape!” while pointing at your own self.

I mean, if you’re gonna rape me, at least have the decency to build up a false sense of security and trust first!

The irony is physically painful.

Counterpoint: You get internships in a congressperson’s office to learn what life in public service is like.

So we’re all gonna call Toomey’s office to teach them what graphic descriptions of the menstrual cycle are like, right?

“If there’s a true stranger rape, a random guy picks up a stranger off the street, those are the troubling ones. That person has, like, no moral standards.”
