If there’s anyone in your life you want to turn into a hockey fan, have them watch the last 5 minutes of any 1-goal playoff game. Always the ultimate in sports excitement. The end of this game was amazing.

+1 groan

He should hire Dennis Wideman’s agent, try to claim consussion symptoms made him do it.

Guy’s a total piece of crepe.

Thanks for this. My library has a copy, I’ll check it out.

I’m an MMA guy and a poker degen, so I only skimmed the front and jumped to the degen gambling stories. But I would Kickstart $20 going to charity, just for the action.

Ah that explains the Pulitzer reference Maravich made. I was like, There’s no freaking way Bob Ryan won a Pulitzer!

One of the points of the article is that fans lean on the stats they grew up with. If 30 years ago I grew up with OBP instead of BA, and SLG instead of HR, my love of the game wouldn’t have changed one bit. But my understanding of the game would have been improved, as it is/can be for fans who understand “new” stats.

So many things have changed in the past 40 years that you can’t pin this on any one thing, but goddamn, sportswriters could write back then.

Plus the C’s didn’t whoop anybody. They were trailing in the 4th and the game was contested up until the last couple of minutes. And there’s still no Jaylen Brown, so it’s debatable how righted the ship is.

If only the Bulls had a veteran who was willing to publicly excoriate a young guy like Wade for not playing with enough heart....

You two are far too reasonable for the comments section.

She’s 3rd amongst current players in Slams won. It is correct to say she’s the most successful player after Serena and Venus.

I think we can fully believe her excuse (she didn’t check the updated banned substance list) and still acknowledge that the likelihood she was using meldonium for honest medical reasons is almost nil. The number of Russian athletes tht used meldonium was outstanding. Sharapova was able to walk the line of legality

Meanwhile, Scott Brooks will advance to the 2nd round (at least).

“In a just world, maybe the Blue Jackets get to tee off on the Bruins in the first round, and this season doesn’t feel like such a disappointment.”

where is this from? It’s great.

This roommate’s a keeper! (As long as s/he does the dishes.)

I was born and raised in one city, moved to another. I have two teams and it is glorious. Why wouldn’t someone want to double their chances of enjoying a playoff run, or just having a team worth rooting for?

The problem isn’t that IT or AI is/was short. It’s that virtually every single championship in my lifetime (40+ years) has been won by a team with multiple all stars. IT has a bunch of decent players, which is actually better than AI, who had a past his prime Dikembe and Eric F’ing Snow.
