Oh, I would if I could. She passed away a number of years ago. But I am happy to brag that I got some of my badassery from her. And her mother, who was one of the first female graduates from Brigham Young University and used to race prop planes for fun.

Wow! Terrific story— RIP Betty, and a big giant posthumous salute to her.

Funny you should mention that! Wisconsin is trying to prevent OB-GYN students from learning how to perform abortions at UW.

I am aware that abortion makes up such a tiny fraction of the services and costs of PP, and abortion services are only a part of the reason I support Planned Parenthood. Without PP, there’d be an even higher need for abortion services. But thank you for bring up the Abortion Care Network, which I have also supported.

Yep, I was barren as a stone even before menopause, but this is the hill I will die on if necessary. I actually seriously considered midwife training years ago in case there was ever a need for me to perform illegal abortions. I am deeply unsuited to that kind of work, so will happily support anyone who will keep

She voted “Yes” on DeVoss in committee. She only voted “No” on DeVos in the full senate vote where Pence could break the tie. Other than that she pretty much always tows the party line.

The podcast Criminal recently did an episode on a similar group, the Clergy Consultation Service. They were actually a collection of moderate Christian ministers who set up a phone hotline and provided travel expenses for women who needed abortions. Well worth a listen, as are all their episodes! http://thisiscrimina

Most medical school graduates are of the age where they just started or are about to start families. Anti-abortion folks target physicians and their families as forms of intimidation. Protestors (think Fred Phelps-level) would show up at the kids’ school of the doc I worked with. They would have the mangled fetus

I worked in a clinic with one of the Jane Collective members in the early aughts—lets call her Betty. I didn’t know that about her when I first started working there, but as I went through training I remember her smile, patience, and general calmness and warmth. She trained me to be an advocate (the precursor to what

I really want a woman to explain to me how she can still be a part of the Republican Party. I understand that there a host of reasons people affiliate with a party (social, economic, cultural, etc), but how much shit do you have to take from a party before you decide that actually, they don’t care about you*.

Then the Republican females started getting uppity and had to be taken down a peg. \sarcasm

As a women’s health clinic worker for over 15 years who has worked at both Planned Parenthood and independent clinics, thank you for your donations. However, only 3% of PP’s work is abortions and very little (almost none) of donations go toward abortion services. So if you really want your dollars to impact abortion

A man who calls himself Buddy has also lost the right to criticize the life choices of others.

Democrats care very, very deeply what republicans think of them.

Meanwhile, Democrats are all applauding and hugging John McCain.

A grown-ass man who calls himself “Buddy” would do well to keep his dumb opinions to himself.

I’d say surgical abortions would be less so, if anything. Physicians have more to lose. Even when they’re legal, you already have abortion providers routinely receiving death threats. The zealotry that exists today to seek out and harm abortion providers is much more intense than it has ever been.

Yeah, maybe this documentary should also be a how-to guide. Just seems wise to learn how to run one of these now.

I’ve never had an abortion or stepped foot in a Planned Parenthood, but I donate monthly to PP and NARAL. Should abortion become outlawed, I will fund efforts like this, to keep abortion an option. This is a cause I will support till I die.

Our moms were badasses! I remember my Mom letting anti-war protestors sleep in our living room in great numbers, putting all of her appointments into her Liberated Women’s Appointment Calendar, which had little thought exercises and fun feminist facts on every page, and disappearing periodically with her girlfriends
