Maybe what I am thinking is they patched in additional warp-able bonfires later. Pre-lordvessel was a significant chunk of the game/world…I wonder if building the world to fit together so well was a big time suck, and they were like "eh, people want to warp anyway" so they moved away from it.

I could be wrong, but I think the warping was patched in later…initially you had to shortcut your way everywhere(?)

There are some reasonable criticisms of DS2, but it still gives you a really satisfying experience. Didn't DS1 initially not have ANY bonfire warping? I think that change (which players wanted) made a significant change in how the world was designed (DS2 and BB), due to easing the constraints of making the world so…

Also you can basically level whatever weapon you like in BB without risk that it is significantly inferior.

It also seems like the people that hammer it STILL played the shit out of it. However much it had flaws, it still scratched the itch.

I love this weekly update…to prove a point, some guy listens to a bunch of podcasts he doesn't even seem to enjoy.

Daggerfall - as far as I can tell it is impossible*, but I created a million characters (take the survey and then just customize anyway) and played the first dungeon, did mage and assassin guild quests, made very little actual game progress over and over again.

I remember being a kid and seeing screenshots from it in a video game magazine. I didn't know what the game was, but one screenshot was entering "sex" where it asked for your information — I didn't know what that was about, but it made me think it was somehow a "naughty" game.

I like them and they are funny, but man I just gave up on that ep halfway through due to complete boring and unfunniness.
