Not much. What Sanu with you?
Not much. What Sanu with you?
I normally hate the guy who doesn’t read the article and goes straight to the comments...but here I am:
This sounds amazing. I’m going to start making this just because. Not even for holidays.
Hmm...your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
I smoke a turkey breast every year (just me and my three boys). I chop up fuji or honeycrisp apples and soak them in bourbon overnight, then stuff the apples between the skin and meat of the breast before smoking it. My plan is always to use the leftover apple-infused bourbon for some kind of punch/mulled cider but I…
I went to a wedding recently that was much like this, minus the surprise aspect. The reception started at 4:30, with the bride and groom walking around talking to everyone and catching up with family and friends. Quick 15 minute ceremony at 6, and back to the eating and drinking. Basically the reception was the main…
Right? I’m embarrassed at how long it took me to realize he was talking about the guys from Oasis...
I’m surprised with all the talk of school fundraisers I haven’t seen anyone mention the other insidious youth fundraiser scourge...sports teams. I have three boys, who all play on travel/”select” baseball teams, and my oldest son also plays football and wrestles for youth clubs. The football team sells TJs Pizzas,…
Yes!!!!!!! Smoked turkey breasts is where it’s at. I’ll have to try that injection. That sounds amazing. I cut up apples (fuji or honeycrisp if I’m feeling extra extravagant) and soak them overnight in bourbon, and then stuff those in between the skin and meat. I’ll use the leftover apple infused bourbon for a punch,…
I grew up driving tractors and old farm trucks, so I can’t remember the “first”, but the first time I did something dangerous and survived. It’s not even THAT great of a story, but it’s my story dammit!
When I became a 6th grade science teacher, the “velocity when people really mean speed” thing blew my kids minds...mainly because the only place they usually heard that word was in sports (baseball, especially). Trying to get them to understand the concept of speed being a vector was one of the hardest things I did…
It’s a sad day when a classic Simpsons reference WHOOSHES right over an AV Club commenter’s head...
Patrick, you summed up my feelings perfectly. I enjoy craft brews. I really do. I live outside of St. Louis, and there’s several good craft breweries within a 30-90 minute drive from me. But due to work and kid responsibilities (3 kids playing 4 sports on six different teams..) my drinking is limited by time and…
Re: Gametime Cheap Beer of the Week. I live outside of Belleville, birthplace of Stag. And he’s right...it’s fine. Not great. But I enjoy it, and at the bars it’s usually .50-75 cheaper per bottle.
This happened near me. My son’s team is in the same league as this team and the comments on local message boards and newspaper sites are horrible. Some parents are leading a movement to get this team kicked out of the league. It’s just deplorable. There’s a large Air Force base nearby, and a lot of active duty and…
Re: Teaching while hungover....I was a middle school special ed teacher for 5 years. Teaching while hungover wasn’t so bad. I didn’t show movies, but those days included a lot of quiet work at their seats, or “reading days” when I’d let them just read the whole hour, or work on stuff for other classes.
Do you have children? Young children? Young, loud, whiny, completely dependent children who won’t leave you alone for just 5 damned minutes? Children who constantly fight over the stupidest things? (one child was eating a pickle and another one hates pickles; the smell of a fart; the sound of a fart; talking about…
There’s a place by me that serves them the same way. I’m never sure what the do with the extra flap (chicken finger?) at the very end. Eat it? Eat the skin off? I usually use it like a Fun-Dip and swirl it around the sauce.
“Ken Burns? Yeah, great kid. I recruited him before he went to Indiana. Didn’t know he was into making documentaries. Now if you want a good documentary series, there was a great one back in the ‘90s called X-Files.”
I moved to Illinois when I was 4 in 1988, but my mom’s family was from KC and my grandparents still lived there, and I spent every summer staying with them. So I grew up cheering for the Bears and the Chiefs (and the Cubs and Royals...)...lot of futility in my lifetime of NFL fandom.
