Studies done on silver clothing shows that the effect only lasts so many wash cycles - usually 10-12. So the silver is coming off in the wash. That turns out to be a BIG problem environmentally. Silver is really bad in lakes and rivers. There was legislation proposed in EU countries and some states to ban silver

Why is this news that synthetics smell worse?

Same, quite often my tech shirts (and after 10 years of paddling and running I have a mountain of them) stankified very quickly and I end up rinsing them and hanging them up to drip over the tub before they even make it to the laundry basket in our room, or else that corner starts to whiff even more.

One of the best ways to clean polyesters that have developed the funk is to soak them in Head & Shoulders overnight. The active ingredient in H&S zinc pyrithione is able to cut through the biofilm and fully kill off any unwanted smelly organisms growing in your clothing. Have you ever noticed that new active wear

Some of the clothes have a silver treatment that becomes less effective over repeated washing.

Some mix in silver threads or coat the existing threads in silver. I am guessing these are the ones that get to be pretty expensive.

This is definitely an issue when I go hiking. I love the synthetics for how cool I stay, even in the desert, but my god do I smell awful after a few days in the backcountry. I guess it's a fair tradeoff, though—my comfort over that of whoever happens to be sharing a tent with me.

One time I left my gym bag on the car over the weekend, Monday morning I opened the car, and almost took the missus instead. Yeah they were synthetic, mixed with hung over sweat. I do perceive way more stench from synthetics, although most of them dry faster.

Which actually makes scientific sense too. Silver is very well known to be anti-microbial (so is copper) so lining the fabric with a small amount should in theory help kill some of the bacteria which is what makes the smell.

I am guessing it probably got to expensive to do or something. Either that or whatever silver

that's why, when i'm finished jogging, my tops and shorts go straight to the Next Load pile. i can't stand running in cotton tops. they cling and just hold the sweat for the duration of the run.

I totally believe synthetics smell worse, but this isn't scientific at all.

Every human has a unique scent due to our differing pheremones and bacterial colonies. To be more scientific they would have to have the participants wear both synthetic and natural fibers for the same duration.

They could have made workout

What happened to athletic-wear manufacturers weaving a bit of silver in with the plastics? It was a thing for a while, I've got a couple of tops with silver and they definitely don't get as whiffy.

Micrococcus

Did we really need a new scientific study to tell us this? They've been marketing special laundry detergent for athletic gear for years for this specific reason.

There's no NRA political funding and lobbying for buckyball magnets. That's all I'll say about that.

don't forget some of them are likely moneygrubbing parents who wants to deflect blame and earn some dough, since their child has already been hurt, might as well recover the medical costs and then some.

Absolutely blown away by the fact that per ebay, that cube cost $1231.34 to build ($57.97 per 22 x 22 grid, times 22 layers). Seriously. If I had his money, I'd wipe my @$$ with mine.

Perhaps people could simply teach their kids not to eat them. I have 4 kids. Each has their own set (some have several sets) of BuckyBalls. None of them has ever eaten them because they've been taught better.

Dude, Americas Funniest Home Videos has been on the air for 25 years, and we (American sociopaths) have been satisfied the entire time.

Destroyed version reminded me of this.

Wait, if he updates his record, wouldn't that mean that he would have to again update, as the edit count increased by one?
