Every machine I have Firefox installed (between home and work), I have to periodically kill it and restart it due to rampant memory consumption. Same goes for IE (when I am forced to use it) and Safari. I have _never_ had that problem with Chrome installations — Windows or OS X.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's because Chrome actually detects whether audio is playing from a tab. As in, if you're playing a YouTube video that isn't making any sound for a while, you'll see the audio icon actually fade out and come back on when it's making noise again.

A guy who made the UNFORGIVABLE error of having a viewpoint different from most of the extremely "accepting" hipsters!!

A bigot is "a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions." it seems Firefox was the one that couldn't tolerate another person's point of view.

I genuinely thought this only happened to me because of my unreasonable tab habit.

The word tolerance or tolerant has lost all meaning to me.

UPDATE: It only works on websites that know they are playing things and feel like telegraphing it. Firefox won't warn you if there's a YouTube video playing inside Giz or something. This is a HUGE BLOW. I hope there's an extension or something.

Browsers are the next generation of OS, and their computing demands will only continue to grow. Who expects their PC to run as fast as it did 5 years ago at Windows' pristine install state? Doing so is naive. Blaming Microsoft for your usage patterns is doubly so. Reinstall Windows and - bonus tip - don't write a

Do you notice any memory spikes (not necessarily too much use, but rapidly increasing use) on other browsers on similar pages? Using AJAX tends to be a memory issue in Chrome, and my only guess at an explanation is the the garbage collector isn't doing its job right. It could be some kind of inefficiency in memory

Haha cool story bro. Now if only it wasn't complete bullshit.

It's actually a PR offense, which generally leads to people being fired. Bad press = lost money = lost job.

By "bigot", do you mean "someone who had the same opinion on gay marriage that Barack Obama campaigned on in 2008"?

Only four hundred tabs?

Oh Chrome is definitely still a memory hog. No argument there. But having lots of extensions makes it even more so and makes it run slower. I wasn't trying to say they were his only problem, just one of them.

I recently switched back to firefox and so far the only features I miss are the little volume symbols in the tabs when something is playing and the YouTube speed controls. In Chrome Youtube videos can be sped up or slowed down.

Firefox has had this for months now. From what I hear, Chrome has a leg up because they have the pause/play controls right on the tab as well.

I completely restored my computer and downloaded chrome first thing, no extensions, and it eats up all 4gb of RAM and crashes my desktop regularly. if I use firefox, I have no issues. It isnt just extension bloat.

Most pages have adopted the YouTube trick of changing their titles with a unicode "Play" symbol when things are playing, but yeah I wonder about when there's like some annoying ad on a page. Haven't run into it yet but I'm sure I will. That is def one of Chrome's best features.

This must be a relief for the people who sit next to you, who had to endure <tap . . . tap . . . tap tap tap taptaptaptaptapTAPTAPTAPTAPTAP> GOD DAMMIT FUCK! every time your Chrome crashed under the load of four hundred burly tabs.

"thanks to the dozens of extensions I've accumulated over the years"
