He’s an amazing method actor. Check out the YouTube video of him when he played Smaug. It’s just wild. The thing about him in a Marvel movie, is Disney makes these movies to push merchandise, Cumberbatch has never done a movie like that (I’m pretty sure). So him being cast as Strange is strange. It’s a role that is

He will soon join the list of actors who say they regret ever staring in a Marvel movie...This role is so far beneath his acting abilities, it’s insulting.

It’ll be worth it because it was a better call scheduling Doctor Strange for a Fall release than Summer. It’s more suited to an October/November release.

I have no doubt Fehr would have performed masterfully, but ask three random people at work tomorrow if they know who he is and that is why he was not on a short list to headline a major blockbuster action film about a relatively unknown hero in a culture where audiences are exhibiting signs of superhero movie fatigue.

Actually there were rumors about Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange a couple of years before before they actually announced the casting last year, so I’m inclined to believe this one.

Marvel’s expectation for this movie is that MCU God Kevin Feige is a massive Strange fanboy from back in the day, and he made the movie happen. I’m sure they had projections and all when deciding, but ultimately I’m pretty sure it’s happening because Feige willed it.

I love you man but have to disagree with your assessment. Cumberbatch is a good actor and was in my top three of choices (Tilda and Vincent Cassel, who also is my number one Doctor Doom) for Strange.

I am often guilty of pre-judging movies based solely on trailers and rumors about story and production, but Marvel’s got a hell of a track record, including some great casting. So I am more than willing to give Cumberbatch a shot here.

Go watch Star Trek - Into Darkness. I think Cumberbatch’s acting is far more compelling as Khan.

You’re mystified by the need, on this particular website about nerdy pop culture stuff, to voice one’s opinion on the casting of a notable comic character?

Well, I mean, fuck that guy for acting in stuff, getting an Oscar nod, and writing all those Tumblr posts about himself, right?

He’s absolutely gonna be worth it. I insisted. You’re welcome.

They cast RDJ to kick off an entire planned universe (at that point more known for drugs and rehab than movies), Chris Hemsworth pre megastar fame, Mark Ruffalo (way more known as an indie darling than a bug, marquee spanning name), Chris Evans (well known but not a huge name by any stretch of the imagination), and

Anytime someone gets really famous fast, there will always be a group declaring loudly that they’re not jumping on the bandwagon - as they ride a different wagon, they apparently don’t see, down the road...

I really wanted Harambe to be be cast but, alas, it was not to be.

As long as this happens eventually, I good with Cumberbatch playing the role...

If that had been the case, Leto might have tried to become a sorceror for real, ultimately summoning a demon.

I didn’t get what was so great about RDJ before Ironman. Now i can’t imagine anyone else doing any better in the role.

Honestly I don’t see anything wrong with this. Cumberbatch can make “magical butt-kicker” believable. I trust Marvel, they haven’t steered us too wrong before.

the reality in which Jared Leto was cast as Doctor Strange
