I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon - not a bad computer (I wouldn’t call it great). That said, why in the world have you had 5 in 4 years if you’ve had no problems?

Eh, I agree that the Chinese are definitely capable of quality manufacturing, but it’s far from a guarantee on any given Chinese-bred product. China’s biggest problem isn’t capability; it’s QA. iPhones and Nikes are made well because there is a lot of oversight ensuring that’s the case. Chinese companies are

Thank you. I didn’t want to be that guy.

Soooo...that was my point.

I am getting sick of Hollywood just regurgitating anything that will pull in decent box office numbers due to the name.

Hell yeah! Regardless of what happens, manual sports cars always hold up their value better in the used market. You can see it on early 991s already, in fact.

Big fan of the way you think. I wouldn’t mind an RX7 one of these days. I don’t think I could use it as a “work” car, though. My inclination with an RX7 would be to strip it and make it a dedicated track car. LS swap? Ohhhh the possibilities

Really? Didn’t know that re: the manuals. That sucks. I saw an SS this week. Wanted to shake the guys hand.

Hmmm. That’s not a bad suggestion at all.....

Based on your profile picture, that’s something you know from experience. I hope I experience a similar reaction from people.

You’re pretty much right. I need something that I can give a guy a ride to lunch in, but something I can put on the track. 340i is a great ride, but probably not ideal for track use, and I don’t dig the depreciation. M3 is the overwhelmingly obvious choice - it’s what I should get - but they just don’t do it for me

There’s no doubt that the Porsche is a little bit showy. I’m young, so the Mustang and STi kind of emphasize that, which is a bad thing. The Porsche might not get off the best image, but it doesn’t make me look like a 17 year-old, either. You’re right that all of the options that you mentioned are a little bit more

Thought of the exact same comment when I read the article.

Not too expensive; I gave them a lot of consideration. TBH, I probably would have gotten a ‘14 or ‘15, though. Whatever car I get will spend a lot of time running autocrosses and see the occasional track day. Maybe I’m wrong, but I just don’t feel great about either of those cars on track. The icing on the cake is

I’m technically still looking. The m235i lines up a little bit better with the S3, but I’m not a big fan. I considered the Mustang GT and STi, but don’t dig the images that those convey, either (I’m fully aware how douchey that sounds, but it’s foolish to act like image doesn’t matter the way I have to interact with

Haha, nope. I already have a modified r53 Mini Cooper S. I don’t want another hatchback. When I was looking at S3s, I needed something that I could drive to client sites. The Golf R isn’t the right vibe for my job.

That’s an option. Or I can go buy a car from another manufacturer that offers a manual. Ask my why there isn’t a new S3 in my garage right now...

Do you want to drive up 991 prices? Because this is how you drive up 991 prices.

You win. That’s incredibly sad.

Addition: one of the best vids I've ever seen on Jalopnik was your clip of removing the Jeep components. It wasn't rehearsed, and you were entertained, so I was entertained. Food for thought.
