Honestly, framing the entire civil rights movement around MLK Jr, the way it occurs in American public schools today (at least in my schools it did) is whitewashing the movement. I used to think the Black Panthers were bad, and had no idea what valuable programs they brought to their communities.

We can’t forget the brutality inflicted on people that were fighting for something America claims to stand for - freedom.
