MOST taxis are leased from giant taxi companies for a flat fee per day. First they have to earn enough to “get out of the hole” in terms of their daily fee. ONLY after that do they start to make money. The companies own the medalions, not the drivers (unless the driver is the medallion owner. In NYC it’s $700,000.

To answer your questions. Yes, I find the fact that a billion dollar company like Uber has made the conscious decision not to allow customers to tip in-app, and then turn around and tell their customers NOT to tip to be nothing short of...what’s the “d” word I want to use here..disingenuous? Distasteful? Deceitful?

We CANNOT see your destination till we pick you up, not when we accept the fare. It DOES NOT show in the request.

Uh, I’ve not seen it in the app anywhere so far.
