My dad is a hard core conservative who lives the most liberal life. He’s got a union job with a pension that lets him retire at 60, he’s on his third marriage (second to a minority; he’s white), he’s got two mixed race kids, and he lives in a liberal enclave in a $1.5M home he didn’t have to pay for.

Say what you will about the specific proposal, but the fundamental issue seems to me to be that indigenous people don’t like to be shat on economically/socially/etc while watching insanely privileged people parade around and make money off some disengaged idea of them. This is just one way to push back.
