The percentage of rollovers that result in deaths isn’t really the point of this article (the point of this article is the extent to which car makers go to avoid making their cars safer) nor the point of this conversation (whether people who are reckless deserve to die).

I agree his use of statistics is quite poor. He’s essentially arguing that this standard should reduce the percentage of deaths relative to all the other ways people die in vehicles. But more likely than not, the overall number or at least the percentage of overall drivers that have died from rollovers has decreased.

It’s not just about building a car that’s safe, it’s about building a car that also meets all the required regulation both federally and internal to the corporation. Which is extremely hard. Especially when you have 50+ years of accumulating regulations and requirements.

It would be nice if you contacted the manufacturers to see how they actually test this rather than just a 30 minute google search. Just because a test is government required, doesn’t mean it’s the only testing they do. These days, I’m sure there is a myriad of new technologies to help verify their structures,

Correct, It effectively stops the boundary layer from breaking down in the high angle diffuser. And due to this they can have a bigger difference in air speed at the narrowest point vs air around the vehicle, thus creating a lower pressure under the vehicle.... so not quite a vaccuum, but neat nonetheless.

I’m just saying that the “weight” that the fan has the push increases with speed as well.

I feel like this whole article misses the point that the fan isn’t there just to push air behind the vehicle. It’s sucking air from the diffuser which allows the diffuser to work better. In other words, the diffuser will continue to increase downforce as the vehicle increases speed so the “weight” on the tires will

So does age.

I was once in Yosemite waiting in line for a shuttle when we started talking to the old couple next to us. They were nice. The older gentleman stated when he was young, we would camp in his tent and look at the big RV’s rolling in saying “I would never do that”. But they they were in their 70s. They retired, sold all

In a world of metrics and numbers and what is good on paper. They need to focus less on this and more on the experience. Often the vehicles that aren’t the best on paper offer the most engaging experience.

I’ve said this before the pandemic and I will say it after.
