I see you’re looking at this as a “takeover” situation. But sounds like they’re looking for a partnership to cut on development costs (i.e. shared platforms, shared EV development, etc) So that they can each have their own companies and benefit from lower engineering and development costs.

I wonder how much 1st Gear is going to affect 5th Gear with what sounds like an immanent slow down of labor.

a) It was 150 billion yen, which is roughly $1.4 billion dollars

I mean that’s kind of the thing, no? Keep the new technology coming. And to get a nostalgia fix, get and use something older. No need to perpetuate it, as much as it dismays people.

I’m a car enthusiast and I have no problem with that. Keep technology moving forward, not back.

I grew up with a father who was a car guy with gasoline pumping through his veins. So I grew up in a garage that started with restorations (63' Biscayne Wagon, 62' Nova, and more) and eventually he turned his attention towards rock crawling land cruisers and truggies. So classic car shows and offroading were some of

Breaking News in Solid Mechanics:

I’m not saying it’s something I’d watch, but it’s not much different than “people paying money to watch humans drive themselves in a circle”

This is why autonomous systems won’t be released by (responsible) manufacturers until they are positive their systems should perform well in 99.9% of situations. Or at least in the situations they allow the vehicles to be autonomous.

People complain about the age of platforms... but if you did a blind test between an old platform and a new platform. Would people be able to tell the difference? And if they did, would it be significant enough to dissuade them from buying the older platform?

It’s illogical because once EV’s take hold and have acceptable range, there is no point of anything but SUV’s and Trucks (and sports cars). Why do people even get sedans and wagons anyway? Fuel Economy... and Fun..... that’s it. SUV’s and trucks are superior in most ways for every day living. Sports cars will stick

Kind of a weird perspective, avoiding the root cause of each accident. What we can say about this sample of vehicles on the road:

1st Gear:

I appreciate your enthusiasm, however as an engineer I can tell you for the most part all the companies are fairly close, some worse than others.

This would be a much better 5th gear.

3rd Gear: That guy made Opel profitable with heavy cuts on jobs and spending. I feel for the guys over in Europe as they try and figure out how to consolidate many overlapping platforms.

So do you think the policy is more beneficial to the parties involved? Or perhaps too limiting?

They say I’m crazy but I have a have a good time
I’m just looking for clues on how to make a dime
Life’s been good to me so far

I personally am curious how this battle of the brands will play out in Europe with so many overlapping brands and vehicle segments.
