Definitely true— but the main concern seems to be actual eye damage from the common consumer green laser, those are all at 532nm (frequency doubled 1064nm NIR laser). The red pointer is annoying but doesn't blind you.

It would be fine. Green LEDs emit centered at 560nm. A 532nm notch filter (which is where green laser pointers sit) is 98% transmissive at 560 (see http://www.thorlabs.us/NewGroupPage9.… or there).

I’m kind of surprised pilots aren’t using glasses with notch filters on approach yet— optical filters that blocks 99+% of light at the green laser wavelength but are otherwise clear have been available for years. Any idea why they're not in use?
