The 'trigger shot' injection determines the time of (hopefully optimally ripe) egg collection. It has to be timed pretty much to the minute. The ejaculation has to be done at the same time and 'washed' (isolating the best sperm from the fluid), so that the embryologist can attempt to fertilise the egg quickly.
