The term rubber match has been around for about 500 years; Deadspin inventing a term that refers to a different type of tournament format is the exact opposite of “straightforward”

If a ref blows a call and nobody sees it, does it ruin a WNBA game?
I can’t wait for the NFL’s double-elimination tournament that decides the Super Bowl champion
I’ve accepted that the Cubs will probably win a World Series in the next couple of years, but please, just once more can I see the light fade from a smiling Cubs fan’s eyes. Just so I can feel normal again.
Exactly why I choose to stay poor, not famous, and practice abstinence!
Defense attorney Mike Monico: “It is a horrible time for sexual assault in America right now.”
That might be overly harsh on Rose, depending on what really happened. There’s nothing wrong with that situation if everyone was there voluntarily. If that was the case, and the charges were just a money grab, then how they treated her on the stand is completely justified.
Yes, but unlike rape, being treated like shit by an entitled NBA player is something I feel very comfortable “blaming the victim” for.
I think it was inbetween. I’m sure Doe was under the influence of alcohol [but not pass-out/black-out/slurring/stumbling drunk] and/or weed and coke (they were partying, after all); I suspect she agreed to group sex, and the next day finally put the pieces together that Rose didn’t give a shit about her and basically…
I kind of had a feeling this was going to be the outcome here. Obviously, we don’t know for sure what happened that night, but based on what’s been reported (which, btw great stuff Diana, highest of fives for you on this story), it really seemed to take a hard turn once the undisclosed text messages came to light. …
Plus Beltran swung earlier in the at-bat. It’s hardly like he was frozen in fear or something. Wainwright made a nasty pitch.
That pitch was brilliant and anybody who says Beltran choked is an idiot. 12-6 curve on the outside is a tall order for a hitter.
thanks for providing a picture of Rose’s attorney, now explain why your comment or picture are relevant in any way...
I never understand this argument. Why do sports need human error from officials/referees/umpires?
Then remove it completely, man. I hate replay. Everyone cites we need to replay to “get it right.” Which, half the time doesn’t even happen!
Defensive PI should be a 15 yard spot foul like college anyway. Spot of the foul is bullshit.
edited to add: if that 98 yard run to the goal line may have been a score, obviously…
Sports needs human error.
So a 98 yard gain that falls just short of the goal line is not reviewable, but a 1 yard gain on first down from the 1 yard line is what you want to review.
Game 2 never happened because that would completely destroy the “Kershaw is a fucking dumpster fire in the post season” narrative
Does everyone know the fable of the scorpion and the frog? Essentially, the scorpion asks a frog to carry him across a river. Only he stings the frog midstream, ensuring both of their deaths, because it is the scorpion’s nature to sting. I couldn’t help but think of it while watching these cubs hitters turn Rich…
