What doesn’t help is people who fail to understand that complaining about racist cops and the supposedly not racist cops who protect these assholes is in no way the same as hating all cops.

I’ve never understood the idea that consent is somehow a boner killer. Wouldn’t you want to know that your partner actually wants to be there with you and wants to have sex with you? Wouldn’t you rather not run the risk of being accused of sexual assault or rape?
No one should be surprised by this. Just like Catherine Deneuve and Angela Lansbury, these are women of a certain generation in Hollywood where certain things were just a way of life and you didn’t talk about it unless you wanted to be branded as a trouble maker. Catherine Deneuve and Bridget Bardot have the added…
It’s more likely that she doesn’t see some of what happened to her as sexual harassment but more as 1) complimentary and 2) the way things were at the time. I think plenty of women choose not to define experiences negative. It wasn’t date rape, it was just that things went a little too far. It wasn’t harassment, it…
It is always important to ground advice and motivation in reality but, in some cases, the way you convey that reality ends up basically taking the air out of people’s sails. It becomes actively de-motivational. Yes, time is harsh and waits for no one. I know that. You know that. But if I’m working with someone on…
This is what people, especially women and women of color, need to hear. There are so many arbitrary timelines and limitations that we set for ourselves. And there are so many of us who have put their lives on hold for everyone else around us. Now is the time to make some changes. No you can’t just run off to backpack…
So your point is what exactly? Other than just shitting on the idea that should not feel like washed up failures because they failed to hit often arbitrary milestones. Or shitting on the idea of offering encouragement to people - specifically black women - so that they can move forward with accomplishing some of the…
Meat salad. Which I used to think meant chicken or tuna salad but apparently has been expanded to mean diced ham, turkey, etc...in a container. Weird.
And she was clearly in crisis. If she refused to take her meds, the next step is to contact the family and then pursue placing her on an emergency hold. The fact that she was in a hospital-based program makes it worse. Why would you choose an extremely cold night to discharge her like this? What made this the…
This is such a sad situation. Resources to really help the mentally ill maintain safety and stability in the community are seriously limited. Baltimore has a problem with resources overall with a lot of programs stretched super thin. Unfortunately many mentally ill individuals end up as frequent fliers at the local…
I understand what you’re saying but, in this case, they booted a woman with a bloody face, wearing a hospital gown, out into extremely cold temperatures. She wasn’t really in any kind of a state to do much of anything except what she did which was sit there. This isn’t the same as rousting the homeless dude who has…
Everytime a guy talks about men being ‘unemotional’ I want to remind them that anger is an emotion. Disappointment, frustration, embarrassment - all expressions of emotion. Since none of us are Vulcans and most haven’t been diagnosed with a disorder that inhibits emotion, the idea of men being unemotional is false.…
There are also black women pushing back - some because they are essentially pick mes who will throw their support behind men no matter what, some because they actively benefit from playing the slap and tickle game, some because they’ve dealt with all manner of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by…
I think some older women see #MeToo as basically whining. These are women who either went along to get along or made a point to be just as tough as, if not tougher, than the men around them. My mother would be in her sixties and I work with a large number of black women in their fifties and sixties. Their responses…
No amount of angry articles or tweets will be as effective as lost revenue. When a company does something that you don’t agree with or does not make products for you, don’t give them your money. Cosmetic brand A doesn’t make products for people with darker skin? Don’t buy from them. Clothing brand B uses racially…
Yes. Bad press is still press and courting controversy is a quick and easy way to drive traffic to your site. And it’s easy to fix - issue an apology and change the image on the site. Sure some people will boycott the brand but I’m sure plenty more will keep shopping there.
I always try to hand the tip to the server if I can. Not that I don’t trust people but...I don’t trust people. My server was the one that made sure my correct order got to my table in an appropriate amount of time. They earned the tip, not a different and especially not some sticky fingered other customer.
It’s stunt food if you don’t eat really spicy stuff on a regular basis or don’t have a tolerance for it. It tastes hot but, to me, there’s no other flavor unless it’s paired with something else.
It’s stunt food. I’ve eaten a ghost pepper and used some to flavor vodka. There is seriously no taste, just straight heat and, for me, massive unclogging of sinuses. Also stunt food - Samyang spicy ramen and that Carolina Reaper chip. I’ve tried both. The ramen wins out only because I can dump stirfry over it.
Me: I might have to try those
