The wait time is 2-4 weeks right now.
The whole point of the video that this article is about is to disprove your second point. The Switch can now be ordered directly, without the need for backorders; it takes around 2 weeks to ship.
Kotaku helping the people learn that a Switch emulator exists. Thumbs up.
The Steam Deck is honestly a complete mic drop moment for portable gaming.
On Steam, Halo Infinite is a free to play multiplayer game and the campaign is a DLC.
One of the downsides of SBMM is that it heavily slows down learning speed for mid-range players. It took me years to realize this but especially in games like Overwatch I know it can be pretty oppressive at times. It can take a 100 games of playing people at similar skill level to learn something that would take you…
yeah every game feels this way once SBMM gets involved. i get that we need to somewhat ease newer players into the game by not absolutely destroying them but not at the expense of every game feeling like i’m fighting an entire lobby of players nearly the same skill level. The whole iron sharpens iron thing kicks in…
I know it's the opposite of the complaint in the article, but they really should just take SBMM out of the damn casual matchmaking. I used to think SBMM people complaining about skill levels were silly, but trying to play Apex regularly lately, feels like I have to clench my cheeks and sweat my ass off to have any…
That’s a great question, and actually inspired me to google it. While Microsoft owns windows and directx, they do not make money from game publishers for either, as there is no licensing fee for using DirectX. In the PC space, the storefront is the money maker. These days, that would be Steam, Epic, GOG, EA Origin,…
Yep. Even after the acquisition Microsoft is still only in 3rd place in terms of size.
well for starters we have the Capcom leak from a couple weeks ago referenced in this very article where Sony forbid Resident Evil 8 from being put on gamepass. you can also look to the rollout of the PS+ expansion where they required developers to give every top tier subscriber a 2 hour trial without compensation or…
it sounds like Sony is adding exclusivity clauses that would allow a game to exist across multiple platforms but not be available through gamepass specifically. It’s not so much so preventing something like God of War on xbox, but more like Sony kneecapping gamepass by forcing, idk, Rockstar from not making GTA5…
The difference is that Microsoft putting a game on GamePass isn’t actively preventing said game from appearing on a competing service or platform. ;)
But if Microsoft is allowed to pay a developer to have their thing on game pass at release, shouldn’t Sony be allowed to pay someone to have the game only on Sony platforms (and maybe PC)? Isn’t it essentially the same thing?
I think a lot of people tend to forget that while Microsoft is a big company they are NOT the market leader in the video games industry. that title is held by Sony and they have used that clout time and time again to keep competition low.
Should make an addition to this article. Even the Nintendo DS Lite had voice chat that you just plugged headphones into for like Pokemon Diamond and other games online for free. So did the ancient old Xbox and PlayStations too. The Switch is so insanely out of date compared to old Nintendo systems even. The fact it's…
The weirdo that occasionally uses the news app is the same kind of weirdo that occasionally reads Kotaku, me.
I’m the weirdo that actually uses the News app, but I think it’s only good for one thing: sale announcements.
“Images can be updated to notify customers of an update, such as a major DLC release or seasonal update popular with live service games.”
Sound good to me, browsing through the summer sale earlier this year I noted how many games were just completely unreadable due to being plastered in tiny text notices across every corner of the image.
