This sounds kind of like the Apex Legends system, but done badly. Apex switched over to a model of easier to complete daily challenges that you can usually knock out in a match or two, and a series of meatier weekly challenges.

$20/hr is also more than my wife makes at a full time salaried job that required a college education. I really, honestly, see no issue with dropping out of college to make $20/hr.
