My favorite is the one about a lady having a tire with a slow leak, her husband would air it up but it would go back down. She was out one day and had a shop put air in it and it stayed up a little bit longer than it had before and she claimed they had better air than her husband did.

The thing is we tend to tell ourselves negative stuff all the time (You are not good enough, you are a loser, you will never make it etc etc) and we don't think that is weird. The truth is, we are going to be telling ourselves something, we should make it positive.

If it is a gas tank, turn off the burner and pilot light. It takes some work to get it back on.
