Approx. 8% of MLB players are African American, which is significantly down from its high in the mid seventies (I think between 20% - 30% but its tough because the 70's and distinctions between Afro-Caribbean and African American).
Yeah, this is what really caught me as well. I grew up in California’s Central Valley and though there are and were tons of people i would consider racist to some degree or another, church was never where that manifested itself. Probably helped growing up Catholic but still.
