That seems unwarranted, to assume that the law firm was more moral than him and just testing him. To me it read much more straightforwardly: His own expression of ethical queasiness helped to doom his interview.
It happened to me once with a classical tune stuck in my head, and no one around me likely to know it. I tried searching Google for the instruments I thought were involved and the way I thought they sounded, which was an interesting exercise, but did not help me name the tune.

I've spent more time with Good As I Been To You, just as it had more performances that grabbed me. (Though that Lone Pilgrim is just great.) I haven't gotten into this new covers era enough to really come to appreciate any of these albums.
Any history of his dabbling in covers needs to mention Good As I Been To You and World Gone Wrong, from the early '90s. Both very worth checking out.
