I don't want to second guess the guy too much, but maybe he feared retaliation, or that they'd kill the girl as soon as they saw the cops drive up. It seems pretty clear that he felt like he had to get her out of the house before he called the cops, and since he went back the next day to do exactly that I'm giving him

In a lot of poorer/marginalized communities, people do not call 911 when bad shit happens. That's an impossible concept for a lot of people to wrap their minds around, but that is the reality.

That's the first thing I thought as well, but I think it should be considered that this ended safely and that he knew these two people well. It's possible that what he did know of them made him believe that there was a better chance of getting the woman in question to safety if he tried coming back alone.

I would like to think he was thinking up a plan to get her out safely without an armed confrontation.

Yeah, that's the biggest question I had also. The thing is, the details they reveal to the public/media at this phase are so restricted, we may not know for awhile. I had a whirlwind of guesses/assumptions (which really aren't fair to him at this point, honestly). My first guess, if he knew this guy (who would later
